The central concept behind this theory is that maladaptive functioning is occurring in one form or another, and that it is mostly unconscious on the part of the patient. This presumed maladaption generally develops early in life and causes chronic day-to-day difficulties.
With Insight Oriented Psychotherapy, Dr. Randall focuses on evaluating the patient’s life, beginning in early childhood, in order to make the patient’s unconscious thought process conscious.
By doing this, the patient’s internal conflicts, which are driving the patient’s long-term symptoms, are revealed and the patient gains insight into their unwanted behavior and gains desired empowerment.
